At one point, he steps in to save Mr Nobody's loyal hound from death. And, finally, he battles up (and tumbles down) the 222 steps of the Rue Foyatier. He battles through an abandoned apartment complex. Wick battles through the traffic around the Arc de Triomphe. The Marquis sees no reason to play fair and lets every killer, in every arrondissement, know that Wick has arrived in the city. And if Wick doesn't make it to their agreed-upon location, outside the Sacré-Cœur Basilica at daybreak, then he and Winston also get a bullet to the brain. If Wick wins, he earns his freedom – while the New York Continental Hotel is rebuilt and Winston is reinstated as its manager. With that little sidequest complete, Wick, Winston, and the Marquis meet in Paris in order to lay out their terms. Of course, there's a catch: Wick can only duel on behalf of one of the established crime families, which forces him to reunite with his old clan, the Ruska Roma, and take out Killa (Scott Adkins), the High Table member who murdered the father of his adoptive sister Katia (Natalia Tena).

Winston reveals to Wick that, if he challenges the Marquis to a duel and wins, he'll be free of the High Table for good.

Returning to New York, Wick meets with Winston (Ian McShane), who's seen his precious Continental Hotel blown to smithereens and his concierge Charon ( Lance Reddick, who sadly passed away before the film's release) killed by Gramont as punishment for past misdeeds. Meanwhile, a tracker named Mr Nobody (Shamier Anderson) stands by, as he waits for the contract on Wick to rise in monetary value before he makes his move. He is forced into hunting down John on the instructions of The Marquis Vincent de Gramont (Bill Skarsgård), who threatens to kill Caine's violinist daughter if he doesn't comply.Ĭaine's attempt to take down Wick in Osaka fails, thanks partially to an old ally, Shimazu Koji (Hiroyuki Sanada), and his daughter Akira (Rina Sawayama). Now, it seems the whole world and his wife are after John, including blind, retired, but very determined assassin Caine (Donnie Yen). Picking up from the events of 2019's John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the box office hit follows former assassin John (Keanu Reeves) as he deals with the contract on his life that was put out on him at the end of Chapter 2. The ending is a happy one, with Mel clearing her name and making a new friend. After a four-year absence, John Wick: Chapter 4 has brought our favourite hitman back to the big screen – guns fully blazing, of course – and also delivers a shock ending to the fourth instalment of the successful movie series. For an action-thriller, it lacked a lot of intrigue and excitement, as when you’re running, you’re not confronting or fighting. The whole film is a cat-and-mouse chase, the focus being on the running rather than the hacking itself. This film does make hacking seem more positive and something that can have a good influence on the world, which is not the way in which we’ve viewed and been shown hackers in the past. After this, she is able to go back to her life, trying to make the world a better place by hacking. The ending of The Takeover has the drama and action we needed from the start, and as well as saving herself, Mel is able to save the lives of innocent victims, making her a true, nerdy hero. This is smart, although, in the end, it doesn’t feel as if her character learned or developed into anything her story arc was quite poor. Mel is helped by a man who she once outsmarted and then by a dumb guy she ran out on, on their first date. This film does have a strong female protagonist, who begins the film being independent and driven, and even when helped by other male characters in proving her innocence, the character doesn’t lose these qualities. They run off camera and we cut to the credits. Mel puts her arm around him, then challenges him to three more laps.

Buddy is telling her he’s proud of her and wants her to change the world. The final scene sees Mel working on her laptop, getting a message from Buddy, which is automated if he’s not online for three days which means he’s probably dead. Together they manage to stop the bus and save everyone. Thomas becomes the action hero we needed and wanted in this film as he steals Buddy’s car and hijacks the bus to help slow it down and stop it before it reaches the river. Mel takes the police to prove her innocence and then attempts to hack into the bus to stop it from running.
